TESTIMONIES

"David Vanderpool is one of the most valuable assets any company can have at their disposal. He has extensive knowledge of his art form and is extremely versatile. In my years working alongside him as an advertising executive, he was able to take my clients' ideas and turn them into a beautiful visual reality. Not only is he a talented artist, instructor, and author, but he brings an extraordinary sense of pride and ownership to his work. It would be a great honor to be able to work with him again in the future. "

"I have worked with David over the years in his position as a graphic designer at the Bakersfield Californian. David has always been extremely helpful, very professional, and works hard to finish whatever task he sets his mind to. The position he fills is highly demanding and requires the ability to work with many different personalities. David is able to juggle all of this seamlessly. I would recommend David as a solid graphic designer."

I have known David for many years and he is one of the best artists I know. His work in pencil, using only black and white is stunning with the human form. I highly recommend David for any project you may have.

"My experience with David Vanderpool is through the graphic art community. David's enthusiasm for art and his consistent quality of work raises the standard for colleagues. Examples of David's work are promoted well through a series of graphite portraiture books he produces himself."

I am so happy to finally get it framed. If anyone is wondering I made the matte wider on the bottom on purpose and left the outer edges showing so it would show off that this is an original drawing. Thanks, David. It was such an honor for you to draw myself and Levi.

I received a photo of Guy Smith and the drawing he purchased not long ago. An older drawing, but still one of my favorite male figure drawings. It's always great to see where my drawings end up at. Thanks, Guy, for sharing! This is so cool!

I just want to say I just signed up for your personal page. I find your [drawings] to be exquisite. Then if people find your nude pictures to bold then they have no idea what art is about. I took an art class in college and studied some of the most important painters. I am glad to say ... I know the artist and he [creates]  wonderful drawings from his heart. Thanks for letting me be a friend.

I received my print as a gift from a very good friend. I have it hanging in my bedroom, where it can be seen upon walking into the room. It is my favorite paces and was done by a very gifted artist.

Received a remarkable gift from Emily this morning. She commissioned California artist David Vanderpool to draw a portrait of me in uniform, much like would have been ordered in Victorian times. Much to her credit, she found a very talented artist for this portrait. I am amazed at his ability. If you ever consider having a commissioned portrait drawn by hand, I highly recommend Mr. Vanderpool. Such a Birthday gift. I love it, ....

As a photographer, the visual art of a photo turned into a drawing that really amazes me. David took one of my photos and turned it into a photo-realistic pencil drawing. His attention to detail amazes me. I now own the drawing David made from a photo I took. Side by side the only difference in the images is one is grayscale and the other is in color. Pixel for pixel it takes a keen eye to spot any variations.

I've been lucky enough to be immortalized by David on a few occasions.  He did an amazing drawing of me playing drums and did an incredible and massive drawing of a large group of musicians Sgt. Pepper style for a local Bakersfield charity CD, which is still one of my favorite drawings ever.  He also did a drawing of my wife and newborn baby son, based on a lousy low-res flip phone camera picture taken shortly after his birth...but he still totally captured the beauty of the moment. I can't say enough about his talent.

Aside from his undebatable talent as a draughtsman, David has taken his artistry further by somewhat controversially undertaking one of his many subject matters; the Male Nude. Often criticized on social media and sometimes blocked for a while due to the ongoing acceptance of what is socially acceptable viewing. This is perhaps neither the time nor the place to get into an involved debate of the male nude in art, but one thing can be said is that David has opened our eyes to questioning why it is too often acceptable to view a female nude but clearly taboo and heaven offend if we glance at a male nude. This has been argued and debated for many years now, but through David's work and talent, this argument is far from over.

This gives rise to why we should look further and deeper into David's art practice, and his advocacy into a discipline that not unlike handwriting, we as a human race are loosing as ability with the ongoing advancements in technology.

As a pencil artist myself I was naturally curious about the book so I purchased it. I have to admit I feel a little jealousy about David's pencil abilities. Reading the book I discovered new ways of using pencil and definitely found some new tools that have helped me improve my pencil creations. Thank you, David!

A great book with great pencil drawings that look so real the images come to life. You will want to go out and buy some drawing paper and pencils. It is amazing to me that they are all done with pencil.

This is the second book of David's I've purchased. I draw as a hobby and get great satisfaction and relaxation from it. I love the book, It is full of amazing drawings that David has done along with the step by step processes and full of helpful tips and information. I could see his books being very beneficial to art teachers and students as well as professional and novice artists. I am very satisfied with his books and recommend them.

Once again David has created a book that can be used by other artists as a learning tool. I have over 20 years of experience as an artist and I'm always looking for ways to improve my creations. David's book gave me insight into simple little problems I have tumbled over for years. As they say, it's always best to look at your own work through the eyes of someone else. This would make a great coffee tabletop book due to the creativity and concepts of David's style.
